One of the most useful tools for reducing anxiety is the ability to ask for help.

Some autistic students may not be aware that they can ask for help in school, or how to ask, or who to ask.  These visual cues offer prompts to remind them to request help when needed.  Remember that the use of such supports needs to be taught one-to-one when calm, and then transferred to real situations.

The supports can be adapted to suit individual preferences.  Some students might prefer a more subtle communication tool, such as holding up a coloured pen to request help or having a unique password with staff.
