In celebration of Autism Acceptance month, why not pick up a book by an autistic author?

From thrilling fiction featuring autistic main characters to autobiographies and helpful ‘survival guides’, books written by autistic voices can empower children, young people and families by portraying autism in a way that is authentic and relatable.  In the words of autistic author Corrine Duyvis (Otherbound; On the Edge of Gone) – “Representation - varied, accurate, respectful representation - can help those of us adrift at sea to find an anchor. It helps us recognise ourselves”.

The books shown here are examples of work by autistic authors. It is important to check the content of a book before giving it to a child or young person, as they may contain sensitive or mature topics.
