It can be easy to forget that visual communication supports are just as important in the playground as in the classroom.
In fact, they are often even more essential in the playground. The environment can be is noisy and overwhelming, making it difficult to process language.
The Centre is sharing two resources which will support communication when playing outside. The first is our own communication board for outdoor play. The second is a booklet written by the Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists, entitled ‘Visual Communication Displays in Playgrounds’.
These resources will make playgrounds more accommodating for all communication styles.
