Movement and proprioceptive input can be very regulating for autistic children and young people.

It can be difficult, however, to identify sensory activities which are age appropriate and motivating for teenagers. Gym equipment is a popular option for this age group.  These resources visually clarify which pieces of equipment can be used to give varying levels of proprioceptive input, depending on the preferences and needs of each young person.  There is a guide for parents/carers and a guide for teenagers. Equipment should be used under adult supervision, and it is always advisable to seek the advice of a gym instructor and participate in an induction session before using gym equipment.
