Following Patsy Daly’s webinar on ‘Small Changes make Big Differences’,

here is an example of a motivational system that can be used to reward the effort demonstrated by the child or young person when leaning a new skill or a new replacement behaviour, for example sharing a preferred toy with a sibling.

It is important that the reward system is meaningful to the child or young person.

To support an understanding of what the tokens represent they must initially be provided in quick succession and each time the new behaviour is demonstrated.

As the behaviour being taught becomes more established for the learner, the number of tokens provided can be reduced or delayed.
