Middletown Centre for Autism is seeking to appointment a Teacher, or, Occupational Therapist, or, Speech and Language Therapist (1x Permanent Role available – 3x days per week). Based in the North West of Ireland.

As an integral member of the Trans-disciplinary LSA team for children and young people with autism, the post holder will assist in organising, delivering and ensuring an equitable and competent service to children referred to the service.  The post holder is responsible for assessment and contribution to recommendations for intervention in accordance with professional standards as well as maintaining a high level of knowledge of pedagogic techniques for children with autism. 

The post holder will be expected to work with children and young people in the North West of Ireland, Republic of Ireland and occasionally in Northern Ireland to deliver training to parents and professionals in both jurisdictions.

A key role following assessment will be in enabling parents and professionals to deliver recommendations for educational goals through the child or young person’s Learning Support Plan.
 

Candidates will need to demonstrate that they have the following qualifications and experience:

FOR TEACHERS:

- A relevant teaching qualification or third level equivalent qualification recognised by the General Teaching Council (NI); or the Teaching Council (RoI) with full teaching registration.

FOR THERAPISTS :

- A relevant Health/ Psychology/ Social Care degree qualification or equivalent. Preference will be given to applicants who hold full registration status with CORU (RoI). Consider may be given to applicants holding full registration status with HCPC (NI).

Demonstratable significate post qualification experience:

  • in the assessment or teaching of children and young people with Special Educational Needs,
  • delivering autism specific intervention therapy/strategies within an educational setting or similar environment,
  • working with a varied age range and/or ability range of children and young people managing complex and/or challenging behaviours,
  • using a range of autism specific strategies to enhance learning programmes.


This post is being offered at points 36 – 39 of the NJC Salary Scale, currently £40,578 - £43,570 per annum, pro-rate for part-time staff. ROI payroll provision in place

Generous Pension scheme and annual leave entitlement (25 days per annum (pro-rata for part time staff), rising to 31 days after 5 years continuous service, plus public and privilege holidays (previous continuous service within education will be recognised)).
